Inside Dimora MegaSorb™: How the Dual-Action System Manages Wound Exudate

Discover how MegaSorb™ manages wound exudate through a two-step approach to absorption and fluid retention.

Wound exudate management involves more than simply absorbing fluid. For wounds with moderate to high levels of drainage, a dressing also needs to help keep that fluid contained after it has been absorbed.

This is the principle behind the Dimora MegaSorb™ Dual-Action Absorption System, the fluid-management technology used across the MegaSorb™ Silicone Foam Dressing range.

Rather than treating absorption as a single step, MegaSorb™ is designed around two connected actions: drawing wound exudate into the absorbent structure and helping retain it within the dressing.

What Is the MegaSorb™ Dual-Action Absorption System?

The MegaSorb™ Dual-Action Absorption System is the shared absorption platform used across Dimora’s silicone foam dressing range.

The system is designed to support wound fluid management by absorbing exudate and helping to keep it contained within the dressing.

This distinction matters because absorption capacity alone does not describe what happens after fluid enters a dressing. Effective wound exudate management also depends on how well the dressing retains that fluid during wear.

Action One: Absorbing Wound Exudate

The first stage of the MegaSorb™ system focuses on fluid uptake.

MegaSorb™ uses an absorbent foam structure designed to draw wound exudate into the dressing. According to Dimora, the material can absorb up to 15 times its own weight in wound fluid and is designed to support fluid management across varying levels of exudate.

According to Dimora, the foam is designed to help distribute fluid throughout the absorbent structure rather than allowing it to remain concentrated at the wound-facing surface.

For patients and caregivers, this means the dressing is designed not only to cover a wound, but also to actively manage the drainage produced during wear.

Action Two: Keeping Fluid Contained

Absorbing wound fluid is only the first half of the process.

The second action of the MegaSorb™ system is designed to retain absorbed exudate within the dressing. Stable fluid retention helps reduce the risk of fluid moving back toward the wound area or reaching the dressing edge.

This is where the “Dual-Action” concept comes into focus, with the system designed to support both fluid absorption and retention.

Together, these two functions are designed to support wound exudate management by addressing both fluid absorption and retention.

Why Absorption and Retention Need to Work Together

A dressing may be able to take in a significant amount of fluid, but that capacity is most useful when the absorbed fluid also remains contained during wear.

For moderate to highly exuding wounds, this can help address practical concerns such as leakage, backflow and prolonged moisture around the dressing area.

MegaSorb™ therefore focuses on both sides of fluid management rather than treating high absorption as the only measure of performance.

More Than an Absorbent Core

The absorbent system works alongside other layers within the MegaSorb™ Silicone Foam Dressing.

According to Dimora, the medical-grade silicone contact layer is designed to help keep the dressing in place while supporting gentler removal during dressing changes.

On the outside, a waterproof, breathable PU film helps protect the dressing from external moisture and contaminants while maintaining breathability.

Together, these components form a layered dressing structure designed with considerations for fluid management, skin contact, and external coverage.

One Technology Across Different Dressing Formats

According to Dimora, the MegaSorb™ Dual-Action Absorption System is incorporated across its silicone foam dressing range.

The Square Silicone Foam Dressing is designed as a general-purpose format that may be considered for a range of wound-care needs, including certain post-surgical and diabetic foot-related wounds, as appropriate.

The Sacral Silicone Foam Dressing applies the same fluid-management technology in a shape designed for the contours of the sacral area.

The Silver Silicone Foam Dressing extends the MegaSorb™ platform to specific wound-care situations where antimicrobial management may be considered, with selection based on product instructions and professional guidance.

Although the formats differ, the underlying fluid-management principle remains consistent across the range.

Understanding MegaSorb™ From the Inside Out

MegaSorb™ is designed around a simple technical idea: wound exudate management should address both fluid uptake and what happens to that fluid afterward.

According to Dimora, the MegaSorb™ Dual-Action Absorption System can absorb up to 15 times the dressing’s own weight while helping retain fluid to keep exudate contained.

Combined with a medical-grade silicone contact layer and waterproof breathable PU film, the system forms the technology foundation of Dimora’s Square, Sacral and Silver Silicone Foam Dressings.

By bringing these functions together in one platform, MegaSorb™ supports Dimora’s broader goal to Make Home Care Easy.
